Village Construction

We have completed construction of the security wall around the village. We still have some finishing work that needs to be done, but for the most part the wall is completed and the future home of the children is secure.

We are currently praying about hiring a care taker to live in the village to maintain security and ensure proper care of all of the plantings. With expectations of someone living in the village and to care for it, we are finalizing a plan to construct a building for him to live in, plus we will have an area to secure building supplies and keep items dry on the rainy days.

Arbor Day

On Arbor Day the children of VCCH and staff planted trees and plants through a generous donation from the Glenville Rotary Club. 70 different items were planted with the hopes of providing fruits and vegetables for the children to eat, adding much needed vitamins and nourishment to their diets. Due to the lack of water and extremely hot summer, many plants and trees did not make it. We do have a few survivors and plan on replanting now that we have water on site. We will have an additional tree planting project planned for this upcoming spring, working with the Rotary Club of Niskayuna.  Types of items planted are:
Mangos, Bananas, Watermelon, Lime, Orange, Avocados, Plantains, Cassava and Sweet Potato

Water Well

In November the water well was completed. after drilling 245’ and installing a pump the village now has water. We still need to test for bacteria and E.coli. It’s a new drill so it will take some time to clear up and give us true test results. For now, it’s safe to water the trees and plants.

Transportation

Our vehicle (Tap-Tap) is in bad shape and will not last much longer. We are in need of a vehicle to transport food and supplies from the markets to the orphanage. We need to take out 11 older children to school and pick them up each day. Josette has appointments with the State, City and Local government agencies and when needed the children need to go to the hospital to see a doctor. These are all needs that happen almost daily and without our own vehicle we will have to use some of the already stretched thin daily budget to pay for transportation. This will be a hardship on the children by using money designated for food to pay for transportation.  We have started a GoFundMe Page and a Facebook fundraiser campaign to raise the money needed to purchase a used vehicle and ship it to Haiti.

Blue Barrels

The First shipment of 6 Blue Barrels departed NYC on 31 May and arrived three weeks later, delivered to our door in perfect condition.  We were in country and watched the children open the Blue Barrels filled with food.

Our second shipment of 11 barrels containing food, school supplies, clothing and Christmas items, plus 12 new mattresses and a basketball hoop set, departed on November 27 from Brooklyn, NY. Everything should arrive on December 11 and be delivered to the orphanage soon after. The barrels are a great way to ship items to Haiti ($150.00 each with no weight limit). We lock them, shipping company seals them and they arrive the same way.

Village Update

Soon we will have the plans finished for the construction of the buildings and facilities that are needed to call this village Home for the children. Facilities to be constructed are prioritized below:

  • Dormitory
  • Bakery
  • School with Offices
  • Technical Training Center (Trade Schooling)
  • Administration Building with Conference Room
  • Administrator/Family Quarters
  • Visitor/Missionary Quarters
  • Farm/Garden Center
  • Livestock Area
  • Recreation Areas (Sporting/Group Activity area)

Sponsorship / Donations

Sponsorship is encouraged:  Your monthly donation will be used for life needs and education of the children. We want you to have a relationship with the children. Consider joining us on one of our visitation trips, the child you support can sit on your lap and you can hug him or her (or both). All 42 children will be all over you! These children need your love as much, if not more, than your support. Orphans are a special gift to us, we are directed to care for them.

Before any Dollar is spent the Children will be properly fed and cared for.  Any donation not designated will be used for the purposes listed below unless directed by the board of Directors for a current special need. The following is a list of items that you can designate your donation to be used for:

  • Purchase a Vehicle and Ship to Haiti
  • Completion of the Security Wall
  • Construction of the Caretakers / Storage Building
  • Construction of the Dormitory
  • Construction of the Bakery
